Renting an Apartment in Rome

Rome is like an onion -- there are many layers, so many one can't possibly see all there is to see in one visit. But you can try. Which is what Fodor's own Lauren Palmer and four friends set out to do in June. In lieu of a hotel, the group pooled resources and established their Roman headquarters in a three-bedroom, two-bath rental apartment near the Spanish Steps. The price was right -- $3,750 per week ($750 per person), which is on the high end. Advice for those looking to rent: do your research and seek out opinions from other travelers. Also note that many rentals don't accept credit cards, so don't be put off if a cash deposit (international money order) of up to 50% is required. And expect to pay the remaining balance in cash upon arrival.
