Fodor's Choice Venice

Venice is like no other place in the world. No matter how many times you have seen it in movies or TV commercials, the real thing is more dreamlike than you could ever imagine. Shimmering sunlight and silvery mist soften every perspective here, making it easy to understand how the city became famous in the Renaissance for its artists' rendering of color.

Venice is a place of secrets and romance. At times, it is given over entirely to pleasure. When we're in town, here are our favorite things to see and our favorite places to eat and sleep.

Planning your first trip to Venice? See our Venice Survival Guide for tips on getting around, beating the crowds (and the heat), how to avoid sticker shock in restaurants, and more.
