American travelers will no longer need to obtain a visa in order to visit the central Asian country of Uzbekistan. There’s just one caveat: you have to be 55 years old or over.
Uzbekistan recently changed its policy that required tourists to acquire a visa in order to foster its tourism industry and encourage visitors to travel to its famed Silk Road sites. Would-be visitors from the United States, as well as 12 other countries, will now be able to visit Uzbekistan without all the red tape. However, no explanation was given for the unusual caveat of restricting visa-free travelers to the 55 and older set.
The new policy will take effect in April 2017.
