Josephine Bonaparte was the inspiration behind this chic hotel's madcap pastiche of roses, leopard, and toile de Jouy prints paired with sleek neoclassical furnishings and original artworks. Small, super-stylish and quiet, each of Hotel de JoBo's 24 rooms (most on the smaller side) is unique, many overlooking a pretty interior courtyard and outdoor terrace. Though the hotel has no restaurant, the voluptuous bar is perfect for a romantic rendezvous or a late-night snack. Set on a small street in the Marais, the hotel is just steps from the Place des Vosges and the Musées Carnavalet, Picasso, and Cognacq-Jay. Nearby you’ll find some of Paris's best shopping and the hotel is within an easy walk of the Seine, Ile Saint-Louis, Notre Dame cathedral, and Saint-Germain-des-Près. A top-to-toe renovation in 2015 brought this handsome boutique hotel, opposite the Gare Saint-Lazarre train station, roaring back to life. Common areas evoke the heyday of 19th-century transatlantic travel (think Phileas Fogg from Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days) and rooms are tastefully done up in earthy neutrals punctuated with bright colors and wood, with modern baths all in white. Set in the midst of a bustling neighborhood, within short walking distance of the big department stores (Galeries Lafayette, Printemps), the Opéra, and Place de la Madeleine, you're not far from the beating heart of Paris. What the rooms lack in size they make up for in cleanliness and coziness. Beds are large and comfortable and noise levels are surprisingly low, considering its proximity to a major train station (which puts public transport at your doorstep). Prices are reasonable for a four-star hotel.

Like its sister the Hotel Paradis, the Panache is gentle on the budget but packs a punch when it comes to style. Bright and modern, with some vintage references (Thonet-style headboards, tweed upholstery, pendant lighting, 50's phones), the hotel plays up its quirky shape, mildly reminiscent of the wedge-shaped Flatiron building in New York. Rooms are compact, but a spare layout, well-placed mirrors and ample light makes them feel more spacious than they are, as do the gleaming pre-war-style bathrooms. A family room for parents and two kids, not so easy to find in Paris, is a nice plus. Set in the up-and-coming 9th arrondissement, it's a great place to explore hidden parts of Paris you might otherwise miss. The hotel is near some of Paris's prettiest covered passages (Panoramas, Jouffroy, Verdeau), the Drouot antiques district, and within quick walking distance of great restaurants, theater and the big department stores.

This is one of the newest boutique hotels on the block and quickly becoming one of the most popular.
