After nearly two years of last-minute planning and daydreaming over screensavers and Zoom backgrounds, tangible travel may finally come back in 2022…and there’s a lot to look forward to. The excitement has been building for many of the new hotels of 2022 since long before the pandemic, and, with only a few more days left before the New Year, it’s time to start packing those bags and booking those plane tickets. From a boutique hotel in Bolivia overlooking the Andes Mountains to an Italian masterpiece making its Capri debut after 200 years in the making, here are our most anticipated hotel openings of 2022.

Habitas Santa Teresa - Opening Mid-2022

WHERE: Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

This 35-room eco-sustainable retreat will occupy a portion of the Nicoya Peninsula known best for its Pura Vida ethos and incredible surf breaks. The entire resort will be constructed from ethically sourced organic materials, where it will effortlessly blend into its beachfront jungle surroundings. Guests will soon be able to book surf lessons or head underwater for snorkeling tours of the Malpais underwater volcano.

MET Hotel - Opening January 2022

WHERE: La Paz, Bolivia

This chic boutique hotel will fit right in with its posh neighbors once it opens in La Paz’s trendy Calcoto neighborhood, overlooking the Andes Mountains. The MET Hotel, including all 76 rooms, will be powered by solar energy and the walls will be lined with a curated art collection from Mariano Ugalde himself.

Cashel Palace - Opening March 2022

WHERE: Tipperary, Ireland

Transforming this former Archbishop’s grand country house (dating back to 1732) into a luxury hotel was no small feat. The project was overseen by conservation architects who managed to create 42 rooms and nine suites—as well as a restaurant, bar, ballroom, and spa—that fall under the Nearly Zero Energy Building rating.

The Homestead - Opening early 2022

WHERE: Nambiti Private Game Reserve, South Africa

This 12-suite eco-luxury lodge worked closely with the community elders around the Nambiti Private Game Reserve in South Africa to preserve the land, build sustainably, and craft authentic and immersive experiences for guests.

Sommerro - Opening September 2022

WHERE: Oslo, Norway

Located in the leafy confines of Norway’s Frogner neighborhood, Sommerro is set to become the city’s first art deco hotel and part of Norway’s largest preservation project. The hotel pays tribute to Norwegian cultural heritage with original artwork from Norwegian artist Per Krohg and custom upholstery and tile work throughout the 231 rooms and residences within the historic building.

Hotel La Palma - Opening Spring 2022

WHERE: Capri, Italy

The Hotel La Palma will open in what was once Capri’s first hotel, which was built in 1822 and long favored by the world’s top artists, poets, writers, and musicians. The elegant transformation will include 50 rooms and suites, as well as a rooftop bar and restaurant. This Oetker Collection property will be within walking distance to Capri’s beloved Piazzetta and is set to once again become the pulse of the island.

Southall - Opening June 2022

WHERE: Franklin, Tennessee

There will be more than 325 acres of working farmland for guests to roam once Southall opens in the rolling hills just outside of Franklin. Each of the 62 guestrooms and 16 cottages will play just a small part in the inspirational experience at the farm, where a holistic spa and wellness program put a mindful spin on a luxury stay. The culinary program will be helmed by chef Tyler Brown, focusing on ingredients grown, raised, and foraged locally.

Cali Mykonos - Opening June 2022

WHERE: Mykonos, Greece

Each of the 40 luxury villas at Cali Mykonos features a private swimming pool that looks out on the azure waters of the Aegean Sea as well as the 110-foot infinity pool at the base of the property. The hotel will be accessible via helicopter, car, or boat, where the calm winds and cool breezes of the property’s secluded location will keep things chill for a night dining at the onsite Mediterranean restaurant.

The Fifth Ave Hotel - Opening Spring 2022

WHERE: New York City, New York

This NoMad building will offer an homage to its former Gilded Age resident, socialite Charlotte Goodridge, with a return to glamor and sophistication in every detail. The Fifth Ave Hotel will occupy the 116-year-old building, as well as a brand new 24-story glass tower, and offers a combined total of 153 guestrooms along with a multi-level restaurant, a ballroom, a private study, a terrace with sweeping views of the neighborhood, and an exclusive bar.

Six Senses Crans-Montana - Opening 2022

WHERE: Valais, Switzerland

When the Six Senses Crans-Montana opens, it will be the first full Six Senses resort hotel in a ski destination and will be one of the most sought-after bookings in the canton of Valais. The resort will have 47 guest rooms and suites, as well as two restaurants and a spa that focuses on Alpine treatments, but it’s the suspended relaxation area with a heated pool, fire pits, and outdoor movie screen where most guests will gather.

WHERE: Rancho Mirage, California

The vibe will be intentionally intimate at the Sensei Porcupine Creek, despite the more than 230 acres this luxury wellness resort sits on. Accommodations will be spread throughout the former estate house as well as private villas scattered throughout the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains, where guests will also have access to a diagnostic center, wellness and fitness offerings, and delicious bites at Sensei by Nobu.

Ritz Carlton Melbourne - Opening 2022

WHERE: Melbourne, Australia

Anticipation is building as the tallest hotel in the southern hemisphere continues to take form. Check-in at the Ritz Carlton Melbourne will take place on the 79th floor, accessible by a private elevator with direct access from the ground level porte-cochere. Each of the 263 suites will offer stunning views of the city.

The Slate Denver - Opening 2022

WHERE: Denver, Colorado

The legacy of the Emily Griffith Opportunity School—a place where anyone, no matter their age or background, could get the education they needed—will live on when this four-story hotel opens in downtown Denver. Hotel Lucine - Opening Summer 2022

WHERE: Galveston, Texas

Galveston has been slowly rebuilding over the last few years after Hurricanes Ike and Nicholas, and the city’s newest hotel, Hotel Lucine, will offer a beautiful blend of the Gulf Shore’s past and future. The hotel will open inside what was once the Treasure Isle Motel (from the 1960s) but will feature updated spaces and 61-rooms with a communal vibe and mid-century modern aesthetic. WHERE: Providenciales, Turks & Caicos

In a region best known for grandiose all-inclusive resorts, the discreet hideaway aesthetics and Mediterranean sensibilities at Turks and Caicos’ new luxury property, Rock House, will be a breath of fresh Caribbean air. Park Hyatt Jakarta - Opening Early 2022

WHERE: Jarkarta, Indonesia

The Park Hyatt Jakarta will be part of the largest resort of its kind in Southeast Asia once it opens inside the MNC Land Tower in the country’s capital city. The hotel will take up the top 17 floors of the 37-story building, where 220 guestrooms and five dining options will share space with the hotel’s impressive 35thfloor gym and daringly high outdoor pool.

Bulgari Hotel Roma - Opening 2022

WHERE: Rome, Italy

Emperor Augustus would have approved of the historic Imperial Rome design elements that will feature prominently throughout the Bulgari Hotel Roma once it opens. Traditional Roman materials like ochre travertine marble and burnt red brick are offset by modern frescos and contemporary furnishings. This former three-star motel will be getting the chic makeover it’s deserved for decades once Azure Sky opens within its midcentury digs. A popular restaurant group is behind the transformation, bringing 14 rooms and a desert chill vibe—communal firepits and vintage lighting included—to this adults-only oasis in the foothills of the San Jacinto mountains.

Naoshima Ryokan Rokasumi - Opening April 2022

WHERE: Naoshima, Japan

The opening of this artsy ryokan will coincide with the Setouchi Art Triennale and will offer visitors access to Japan’s most up-and-coming artists with exhibitions inside the 11 guest rooms, a restaurant, and public spaces.

WHERE: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

WHERE: Sandpoint, Idaho

This ski-in/ski-out lodge will be the first boutique hotel in Schweitzer, Idaho’s largest ski resort. Humbird’s 31 rooms are spread throughout three stories, where large panoramic windows will look out on Lake Pend Orielle and the slopes beyond. Tiny details like locally roasted coffee and custom Pendleton blankets will catch discerning eyes, but only a few in-the-know travelers will catch the way the globe lights above the bar in the Crow’s Bench restaurant are hung in a way that spells “pray for snow” in Morse code.
