New England is known for its stunning coastline, gorgeous fall foliage, and delicious seafood, but it’s also home to more covered bridges than any other part of the country. There’s something inherently romantic about driving down a country lane and coming upon a picture-perfect bridge that crosses a rushing river or seeking out a bridge that you’d never find while speeding down the interstate. These 20 covered bridges are definitely worth getting off the highway and slowing down for.— Kim Foley MacKinnon

I know we are off the beaten path but if Covered Bridges are part of your travel plans visit Elizabethton, Tennessee. Our Covered Bridge was constructed in 1882 and is 134 feet long. An annual music and arts festival is held at the site. If you'd like to learn more visit http://www.cartercountyhistory.com/covered-bridge.html

Those are lovely. Parke County Indiana has some beautiful ones, too. They even have a covered bridge festival in the fall.

And not one of the 198 picturesque covered bridges in Pennsylvania? New England is not the centre of the covered bridge world.

You covered bridge section is totally East Coast biased. Madison County, Iowa (of the 19 original covered bridges only 6 remain and 5 of them are in the National Register of Historic Places. Also left out were the covered bridges in Brown County Indiana. Thus, you should rename this section 16 postcard covered bridges in the Northeast. In addition, you should look at the entire USA, not just one region.

Too bad they left out all the ones in Swanzey NH, there are six covered bridges in a 20 mile radius. They represent several different types of construction and are a wonderful day trip from Boston, Hartford and many areas of New York.

There is a beautiful covered bridge in Felton, CA-- one of the tallest in the US and made of redwood. I have photos of it, if you are interested.
