In order to turn Winnipeg’s Red River Mutual Trail into a true winter wonderland, one competition is adding what the trail really needs: heat. Warming Huts, an Art + Architecture Competition, has announced the three winning designs for its annual design competition. Three chosen designs include Greetings From Bubble Beach (a dome made out of ice blocks), Ice Lantern (a glowing lantern with insulated dugout), and Open Border (a vibrant space where visitors can take shelter from the cold).
At the end of January, the winners will be brought to Winnipeg to build their huts before finally putting them in place on the Red River Mutual Trail where ice skaters, pedestrians, and bicyclists will be able to find a little refuge from the plunging temperature.
