Visiting Los Angeles? There’s an adventure right near LAX that you should try.
When it comes to Southern California beaches, Dockweiler might not come to mind as immediately Santa Monica or Venice—it’s somewhat of a hidden gem in Los Angeles. Here you can bike along 3.7 miles of ocean frontage or enjoy a moonlit bonfire beneath planes as they ascend from nearby LAX terminals (fire rings are already in place across the beach). And now, there’s yet another reason to come to this 288-acre stretch of sand: to learn how to hang glide.
Windsports offers lessons for this beginner-friendly sport on weekends, and Wednesday through Friday. The cost is $160 for seven flights or $99 for four flights (lessons included). Step off a 15-foot bluff while wearing a training glider, and get swept up by the wind at dusk for a scenic ride with the seagulls.
