Hip Boutique Brand to Manage Miami’s Classic The Tides Hotel

The tides have turned for a classic Art Deco hotel that towers above Ocean Drive in Miami’s trendy South Beach area.

Starting next month, The Tides will be managed by King & Grove, the boutique hotel group behind the popular hipster Surf Lodge and Ruschmeyer’s hotels in Montauk, New York.

The Tides, which opened in 1936—and, at 10 stories, was once Miami’s tallest building—underwent a makeover as recently as 2007 at the hands of Kelly Wearstler, the chic designer behind several Viceroy hotels including Viceroy Miami and Bergdorf Goodman’s BG Restaurant in New York City. King & Grove will introduce its trademark blend of luxury and casual-kitsch while building on The Tides’ nostalgic vibe. Changes to guest rooms, cuisine, and public spaces—including the pool area—are all in the works.
