Oregon’s low-key Willamette Valley Wine Country has welcomed a lovely new hotel in downtown Eugene (the neighborhood’s first new hotel in 28 years). The Inn at the 5th debuted in February around the corner from Eugene’s famous Fifth Street Public Market, and only a few blocks from the Amtrak station, providing easy access to increasingly cool Portland.

Designers made sure to incorporate some local Oregon flavor within the interiors—they crafted the lobby’s rustic coffee table out of a maple tree that was harvested from the building site, and used leftover wood from the former Nike Store to make in-room mantles. Decor in the 70 guest rooms varies slightly, but all units feature butler closets (private little enclosures at the entryway, where room service can be delivered without guests having to come to the door), gas fireplaces, balconies, cozy window seats, and artwork by local artists.

There’s an onsite Gervais Lifestyle Salon & Spa, while room service is provided by the James Beard-nominated French restaurant Marché, located next door. Guests can sample Willamette wines at neighboring LaVelle Vineyard's tasting room and enjoy live music come summer at the inn’s outdoor courtyard. Complimentary shuttle service will bring guests anywhere within four miles of the inn (that includes transfers to Eugene airport). Nightly rates start from $189; www.innat5th.com.
