Looking for an onboard meal that ups the ante on plain old airplane food? Delta Air Lines customers on transcontinental routes now have that option, thanks to the introduction of the airline’s brand-new menu options. Economy class passengers flying between New York‘s JFK Airport and select West Coast destinations (Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle) will be treated to sandwich wrap options onboard, in partnership with Luvo (formerly Lyfe Kitchen). These meals, which are offered on a for-fee basis, are similar to those Delta introduced last year in the West Coast Shuttle markets, which have been well-received by customers.
Each flight will offer two choices from the following menu (and each wrap comes with a side of seedless grapes and a multi-seed coconut chocolate-chip cookie):
* Luvo Quinoa Crunch Wrap: Fresh crunchy vegetables, quinoa, avocado, edamame hummus, black rice, and bean salad in an olive oil-whole wheat tortilla.
* Luvo Grilled Chicken Wrap: Spiced grilled chicken, crisp romaine lettuce, avocado, cherry tomato, and vegan herb aioli in an olive oil-whole wheat tortilla.
* Luvo Roast Turkey and Havarti Wrap: Sliced roast turkey breast, Havarti cheese, black rice and bean salad, arugula, and edamame hummus in an olive oil-whole wheat tortilla.

For passengers who upgrade from economy class to Delta’s "economy comfort" product on the transcontinental routes, the wraps will be complimentary, putting Delta on par with Virgin America as the only carriers in the transcon market to offer free meals in their premium coach seats. JetBlue offers complimentary snacks, while American Airlines and United Airlines offer passengers free nonalcoholic beverages.
Later this year, business class customers on Delta’s transcontinental routes will start to see updates to onboard seating, as well. The previously announced flat-bed business class seats will enter service on three aircraft in July, with more to come through the middle of 2015.
Combine that with their announcement last week regarding updates to the rest of the domestic fleet, and this move from Delta shows that they are serious about efforts to improve passengers’ travel experience, even in economy class.
