While buying a Banksy still costs around a cool million, you can now be in one for around $30 a night. The Walled Off Hotel, Banksy’s newest installation, invites guests to rent a room with “the worst view in the world”: the wall that separates Israel from the Palestinian West Bank.
Doubling as art hotel and art gallery, the Walled Off Hotel features seven rooms designed by Banksy himself, each with original artwork and installations. On the ground floor, you’ll find a museum highlighting the history of the West Bank, a gallery selling Palestinian art, and a chimpanzee Bellboy for guest photo ops.
Banksy says that the hotel “offers a warm welcome to people from all sides of the conflict and across the world,” says Banksy. And they have been coming. “Actually there were more Banksy tourists coming to Bethlehem than Nativity Church tourists. We say more Banksy tourists than Jesus tourists,” says Walled off Hotel manager Wisam Salsah.
The hotel will open to the public on March 20.
