Matt Hanson

Matt A Hanson is a journalist and editor based in Istanbul. He has written for Artforum, ARTnews, Artnet News, and ArtAsiaPacific about the contemporary art world in and around Turkey. He has contributed book criticism to World Literature Today, Words Without Borders, The Millions, and The Fortnightly Review, among many others. He holds a B.A. in International Indigenous Studies from the University of Calgary after completing courses in five countries, including Egypt, Mexico and Peru. His writings have been translated into Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew and Ladino. As a former resident of Cairo, Brooklyn, Calgary, Puebla (Mexico) and Cajamarca (Peru), he has produced travel writing from the Middle East, Latin America, Europe and Central Asia since 2007. As the founder of the online magazine and independent press, Fictive, he has published sixteen books of prose and verse on various themes exploring immigration and multiculturalism, blurring the bounds between translation, fiction and criticism.
