New year, new travel chic. It's time to toss that old, worn-out microfiber tote, and treat yourself to a weekend bag that's worthy of your otherwise posh wardrobe. And designers these days are doubling up on function, as well as design. From buttery, leather satchels to tried-and-true canvas duffels, we have six great selections to get you stylishly from point A to point B.

T. Anthony Classic Duffel

A favorite of Marilyn Monroe and Jackie O., this heritage luggage line is known for its waspish good looks and sturdy craftsmanship (all products are guaranteed for life). The lightweight canvas style ($375) is perfect for a weekend getaway, and comes with a shoulder strap handy for rushing to make that 5 p.m. train.

The Kicker: Order online, and get a complimentary monogram on your duffel.

Want Les Essentials De La Vie "Hartsfield" Travel Bag

Contrary to its flowery, long name, this brand is known for elegant, pared-down pieces. We found this savvy Hartsfield bag ($395) in navy with red handles on the menswear site Park & Bond (it's not uncommon to find a better selection of travel accessories for gents). With the soft sides, it's easy to stow in cramped hotel spaces, but also roomy enough to pack the essentials.

The Kicker: The eco-minded traveler can sleep easy; the bag is made of organic cotton.

Filson Wool Duffle Bag

This company, from the Pacific Northwest, has been outfitting adventurous travelers since 1897. J.Crew and other retailers have recently picked up on the brand's rugged yet handsome finishes, and started stocking it. But for a better selection, head directly to the Filson site where options such as the wool duffle bag ($270) offer both looks and utilitarian features. The flat bottom means it's ultra-sturdy, and the sides are crafted of virgin wool and trimmed with leather for a nice play on texture.

The Kicker: Carrying a laptop? The line's padded computer bag ($315) features high-density foam, and rugged twill with a water-repellent, oil finish.

Mulberry Leopard Print Simple Clipper

The Brits have a long history of globe-trotting, so when it comes to luggage, they have a seasoned hand. Take London-based Mulberry, for example, which has several chic options. We're obsessed with their leopard print satchel ($775), for its whimsical pattern but wearable muted hues.

The Kicker: This bag is great for klutzes. It's made of Scotchgrain, a poly-vinyl coated, woven cotton, with a pebble finish to ward off spills and stains.

3.1 Phillip Lim "31 Hour" Weekender

This beautiful bag has the gorgeous, clean lines that say cosmopolitan savant. Lim had the person who needs more than 24 hours in a day in mind when he designed this baby. Aside from inspiring envy on your next work trip, it has sturdy handles for toting heavier wares, and a generous, zip opening that makes it easy to stow a laptop.

The Kicker: At $895 a pop, this bag is something to save for. But the "31 Hour" line also offers smaller zip pouches ($295 each), which easily slip into the weekender for added versatility—and can function as a fancy cosmetic pouch or evening clutch. Try one in a bright color for a quick pick-me-up.

Ralph Lauren "Cooper" Bag

If you're prepared to go for broke, then this weekend bag ($3,995), from the brand's purple label, is timeless. With rich, Italian calfskin that will only get better with age, and vintage doctor-bag styling, it's a real head-turner.

The Kicker: For those who love Lauren but prefer a sportier look (and a lower price-point), there's the Rugby line's canvas and leather weekender, for $178.
