Fodor's Expert Review Hard Rock Hotel Chicago

230 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, Illinois, 60601, USA

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Flashy, loud, and packed with plasma TVs, this hotel in the 40-story, art deco Carbide and Carbon Building has modern rooms adorned with rock-and-roll paraphernalia. Ask for a tower one, which comes with striking views of Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park, and the Chicago River. Complimentary issues of Rolling Stone keep guests in the rock-themed mind-set. There's no Hard Rock Café here; however, Chucks, an upscale diner helmed by Kerry Simon, serves a mean burger as well as citrus-braised short ribs and other American comfort foods. Mr. Brown's Lounge, a busy new bar, is also on-site.

PROS

  • well-appointed rooms with great views
  • good location
  • Aveda bath products

CONS

  • the dim lighting can get old
