San Camp
Trip of a Lifetime

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Botswana

New & Noteworthy
San Camp

Some have said you can see the curve of the earth from this quiet, palm-dotted expanse of land on the edge of Botswana's Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, in the Kalahari Desert. Though this African safari lodge offers the traditional morning and night wildlife outings, guests here get to go beyond the thrill of seeing the Big 5, with activities like stargazing, desert Quad rides, bird-watching excursions, and cultural and archeological site visits—as well as experiencing the vast quietness of the camp's remote setting. In the rainy season, zebra and antelopes are spotted, along with the usual hyenas, aardvarks, and other nocturnal animals. Accommodations host a maximum of 12 guests in simple white tents outfitted with colonial officers' furniture, adding to the edge-of-the-world vibe.
