Conservatorium Hotel
City Chic

Located across the street from the Van Gogh Museum, this 129-room hotel transforms a former music conservatorium into a cutting-edge design hotel. Opened in late 2011, the uber-modern, out-of-the-box property is worth a look on style alone. Designed by Milan-based architect Piero Lissoni (who has created furniture for Italian companies such as Kartell and Cassina), highlights include a four-story, glass-enclosed atrium with a swanky restaurant and bar, and minimalist-yet-comfortable rooms with "hidden" bathrooms. The Conservatorium lounge has become a de-facto living room for the neighborhood's stylish locals, who gather for meetings in the afternoons and cocktails in the evenings.
