Yesterday, Skimmer wrote about this too, and I figured a sighting like this merits it's own thread. So...

If you want to know all about it and see the pics, plz read my trip report on AardvarkTavel:

http://www.aardvarktravel.net/chat/v...5&start=35

It also contains a link to a QuickTime panorama movie showing the scene like it really should be shown. Warning: 4,2Mb file, so not for those on dial-up.

Enjoy!

Hi Pixel,

Excellent pics and looks like a nice place to stop for a quick bush picnic.

Thanks for these .....

Incredible place, the panning photo is outstanding -- probably the closest a photo can be to capturing such magnificence.

Jochen,

The Jouberts filmed there ... probably when they were making their documentary: reflections on elephants.

Greetz,

Lovely photo. Can you give any more details about where to find this waterhole or is it best kept secret??

To be honest; I haven't got the slightest idea where it was!

Johan; you're right! I forgot to mention that in my report. I also remember now that Ewan wanted to show this place to Frans Lanting, but FL didn't want to go that far from where he was staying at that time.

I can't view the panning photo, is it a much bigger version of the small one just below the link?

Ah, what a treat....
A couple of years ago a friend of mine was at horseshoe bend on the Kwando River and stumbled upon a similar scene with thousands of elephant congregating in the late afternoon. Man I am now twice as jealous as I was then.

The QT panorama is cool. At first it was in black and white, then I went back to it and it was in color.

You have wonderful pics of a subset of the eles too.

@Kavey; you need to installthe QT plugin to view it. As Atravelynn pointed out, it loads in low-res BW, then gradually loads in full effect.

Aah OK, I'll have to give it a miss, I did have QT installed a while back but it was causing problems with other media players, so I uninstalled it...

Kavey, an alternative is installing the FireFox browser (best one out there too, imho)

Uhm... then get rid of all the rest!

You only need QT + FireFox. And VLC media player outside your browser (plays it all, simple as that).

Grin, not to worry. Much as I'd like to see it, it's not incentive enough to start uninstalling and installing software! The PC is actually behaving itself at the moment, I don't want to tempt fate!!!

If you have a standard photo version, let me know.
