What movie would you choose to promote Italy?
There's certain movies that make you want to prepare your suitcase and leave. What movie would you show a friend to convince him/her to go to Italy?
I can think of:
1)"Roman holidays",
2)"The talent of Mr. Ripley",
3)"Under the tuscan sun",
4)"Only you",
5)"The gladiator",
...or any other???

"It Started in Naples" Loren and Gable, although it takes place almost entirely on Capri.
"Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow", Loren and Mastroianni, mostly in Naples.
"Daddy Long Legs", Astaire and Leslie Caron, Paris
"Funny Face", Astaire and Audrey Hepburn, Paris
"Kind Hearts and Coronets", Alec Guiness, English Countryside

Heaven with Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi. It is 50% Italian and all in Rome and Tuscany. The vistas are beautiful. I saw it in Slovenia not realizing that it was mostly in Italian (we obviously had slovene subtitles which I don't understand) but still enjoyed the movie b/c of the scenery and yes, there was enough English to get the jist (gist) of what was happening. (nice run on sentence! )

You do have lots of titles!!!
And what about specifically movies regarding the Amalfi coast and Sorrento?
Ira, since you name the Sophia's movies...have you evere seen "Pane amore e...", with Sophia Loren, Vittorio De Sica and Tina Pica by Dino Risi. Most of it is in Sorrento and particulary by the local "Marina Grande", the "Regina Giovanna" shore and the old Sorrento City hall.

I would add "Ciao, Professore," a comedy set in Naples, and "Malena," directed by Tornatore (and all of his other movies). Our Italian professoressa really likes "Bread and Tulips," saying it shows things she loves about Venice usually not seen in the movies.
