Pride of America's construction began in the shipyards of Pascagoula, Mississippi, when the ship was conceived as Project America by the now-defunct American Classic Voyages. NCL America towed the incomplete vessel to Germany, where the almost-complete hull sunk alongside the pier during a freak storm, delaying her delivery.
