When considering an NCL cruise, keep in mind that the ships weren't cut from a cookie-cutter mold, and they differ widely in size and detail. Although all are brightly appointed and attempt to offer a comparable experience, the older ships just don't have the panache or the numerous Freestyle dining selections found on the newer, purpose-built ships. On the plus side, the newest vessels have many options for families, including large numbers of interconnecting staterooms that make them ideal for even super-size clans. By 2009 NCL will have one of the newest fleets at sea following the introduction of two large, new vessels; older midsize ships are being transferred to parent Star Cruises in Asia.
