AmaCello Review

One of the most popular vessels in the AmaWaterways fleet, the AmaCello winds it way through France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland with Rhine River itineraries. Culture, wine, and Christmas cruises last 13 days on this pretty 148-passenger cruiser with river-facing staterooms, marble bathrooms, and Wi-Fi.

A leader in its niche, winning eight industry awards for Best River Cruise Line, this specialty 15-vessel cruise line has exceptional staterooms and itineraries that showcase not only Europe, but also Vietnam and Zambezi. Its Austrian founder worked with several of the other major river-cruise companies before launching his own company in 2002. Since then, AmaWaterways has introduced nine new ships in Europe: Amabella, Amacello, Amadagio, Amadante, Amadolce, Amalegra, Amalyra, Amaverde, and Amavida. In 2013, the yacht-inspired Amaprima and Amacerto join the fleet. The refurbished 212-passenger Amakatarina cruises between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

AmaWaterways’ luxury ships are among the newest of the European river cruisers operating today. Designed exclusively for the English-speaking market, the ships have staterooms equipped with flat-screen TVs and Internet, French balconies on the top two decks, elevator, whirlpool, and free bicycles for exploration ashore. Impressive public rooms use designer fabrics, chic furniture, and subtle lighting for an upscale boutique hotel atmosphere.

They operate a wide range of itineraries in Europe on the Rhine, Main, Danube, and Mosel rivers; and in Russia on the Volga, Svir, and Neva rivers. The company also offers Christmas-market cruises from late November through December. Reserve April to see tulip blossoms cruising Holland and Belgium.

Danube River

This was our first river cruise and first time with AMA Waterways. I would highly recommend this company and vessel as it was first rate for everything. The food, service, tours, and entertainment all met my high expectations. The ship was clean, modern, and very comfortable. Each cruise is assigned their own personnel travel advisor who meets all the necessary requirements of a 5 star Concierge. Even using the free bikes on board was a fun way to

travel the country side as AMA packs you a box lunch. This is the only way to see Europe. Unpack once, and sit back and enjoy the ride. Every night the food was amazing. Always made with the freshest items, I did not have a meal that wasn't first class. We stayed in one of the cheaper rooms as we were on a budget. The money that was saved on the cheaper room was used to purchase other items on our trip (the dollar/euro exchange rate). The room was clean, and can be compared to a five star hotel with all the high end linens. Nice sized bathroom, with state of the art fixtures. The focus on this line is on the tours of the european towns/villages. The on-board facilities (i.e. gym, spa, and lounges) were nicely laid out and appropreate for the size of the vessel. The gym had all the state-of-the-art machines. From the minute you land to the time you are dropped off at the airport for your return, this cruise line is execellent. They even send a nice 'Thank you' a few weeks after you arrive home.
