Cruises to New England and Canada are seasonal and typically scheduled for maximum opportunities to view fall foliage colors in September and October, although some cruise lines will offer occasional late-spring sailings. Temperatures range from highs of about 70 degrees F in September and 60 degrees F in October in New England; temperatures may be about ten degrees cooler in Canadian ports. Pleasant "Indian Summer" days are not uncommon; however, nights at sea off the North Atlantic coast can be twenty or more degrees cooler than daytime temperatures. Summer cruises to Canada are more about getting away and sightseeing, not beaches, although temperatures may still be mild. Highs for summer months in Canadian ports range from the mid-60s to mid-70s F. Although ships stay well out of the way of storms, hurricanes and tropical storms can affect the weather in the North Atlantic and cause damage to ports of call, forcing adjustments to itineraries.
