Excursions run the gamut from island tours focusing on history to deep-sea fishing expeditions. Biking along the island's Railway Trail, an old rail line that has been turned into a pedestrian and bicycle trail, is a quintessential Bermuda experience. Walking tours and carriage rides in Hamilton, the island's capital, are also very popular. During the warmer months, scuba diving and snorkeling excursions are popular. And throughout the year, boating excursions -- whether a party cruise or a more eco-friendly kayak tour in some of the protected coves -- are very popular. Of particular interest to maritime and history buffs are the Bermuda Maritime Museum, on the grounds of the fortress at the Royal Navy Dockyard, and the Bermuda Historical Society Museum, located in Par-la-ville, a gracious Georgian style home on Queen Street in downtown Hamilton. Because most ships spend several days in Bermuda, most passengers do at least some touring on their own. No one should leave Bermuda without seeing the island from the water and getting to know the local residents -- a ride on the high-speed ferry can accomplish both objectives.
