Public Areas & Facilities

To make finding your way around simple, remember that all dining and entertainment areas are located on the top three decks, with restaurants located forward and indoor-outdoor bars facing aft. The main lounge and casino are mid-ship on Main Deck, as is the library. The fitness center and business center, where you'll find the computers with Internet capability, are one deck higher. Most public areas have expansive sea views, although an exception is the WindSpa, which is tucked away aft on Deck Two just forward of the water-sports platform and large sauna. Stairways are rather steep, but forward and aft elevators assure that moving about is relatively easy.

Don't expect nautical kitsch to predominate Wind Surf's decor. Although the main lounge has an understated sailing-flag motif, all other public areas are simply designed for comfort, with deep seats and an abundance of polished teak. Fresh flower arrangements and sailing-related artwork are lovely touches shipwide.

Restaurants

The formal restaurant has open-seating dining and is large enough to serve all passengers at once. For a more casual setting, the Veranda Café has indoor and outdoor seating for breakfast and lunch. An adjacent grill whips up cooked-to-order breakfast items and serves barbeque selections outdoors when weather permits. The Bistro is a reservations-only, casual alternative.

What Works & What Doesn't

Superb service is delivered with a smile by waiters and stewards who greet you by name from almost the moment you board. Utter contentment is assured with such a high ratio of staff members to pamper passengers. The open bridge policy means you can stop by when you wish for a chat with the captain or his navigation staff; however, don't count on a warm reception at all times. They may be busier than they appear to be.

Keep in mind that tightened security measures also prevent you from stopping in for a visit.

Accommodations

Layout-Amenities: Wind Surf's oceanview staterooms are a study in efficiency and clever design. Hanging lockers (closets to nonsailors) are generous and contain shoe racks, shelves, and clever hanging baskets for gear. A small enclosed cabinet conceals a personal safe and an entertainment center features a flat-screen TV and DVD and CD players. The combination vanity-desk and bedside table have drawers for ample storage. A few standard cabins have upper fold-down Pullman berths for a third passenger.

Suites: Double the size of standard staterooms, suites were created by reconfiguring two standard cabins to create accommodations with twice as much storage, two bathrooms, and a generous sitting area with a sofa bed to offer a berth for a third passenger. The bedroom and sitting room can be separated by drawing a curtain for privacy.

Good to Know: Special touches in each stateroom and suite are fresh flowers, terry robes for use during the voyage, and bath toiletries. Teak-floor bathrooms are sensibly laid out and spacious enough for two people to actually share the space. All staterooms and suites are equipped with barware, a minibar, and hair dryer. There are also portholes with deadheads, which can be closed in high seas. There are no cabins configured for wheelchair accessibility.

Favorites

Don't Miss: Teatime at the Compass Rose, where sweets are served in addition to the finger foods and a duo performs easy-listening tunes, is a highlight every afternoon.

Best Added Value: All cabins are outside and none have obstructed views.

Best Dessert: Hands-down, the best dessert is the signature bread pudding. Look for it daily at the lunch buffet.

Our Favorite Spot for a Nightcap: The deck behind the Compass Rose Bar is close enough to enjoy good service and music and yet far enough away for privacy.

Closest Thing to a Sports Bar: Smoke your cigars under the stars outside the Terrace Bar, which has a high-tech humidor and a flat-screen TV.
