Orient Lines
Style: Mainstream

Pre- and post-cruise tours with hotel stays are offered with nearly every itinerary, making it possible to enrich a voyage with several days of intense land-based exploration in some of the world's most intriguing locales.

Past passengers are intensely loyal, and it's not uncommon to find a third to nearly half the ship filled with repeaters.

Orient Lines is noted for its "Discovery Lecture Series," which has featured the likes of Sir Edmund Hillary, conqueror of Mt. Everest, and astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

Launched in 1993 by British entrepreneur Gerry Herrod as an adventure-oriented cruise line, Orient Lines was acquired by Norwegian Cruise Line in 1998. Despite being owned by a mainstream cruise line, Orient Lines has operated as a distinct brand, entirely focused on destinations.

Choose If ...

Your cruise itinerary is more important to you than how you get there. Marco Polo is a ship-lover's dream, but it doesn't resemble a floating resort in the slightest.

You are traveling solo. Orient Lines offers some of the cruise industry's lowest single supplements, often as low as 50%, and special singles fare promotions are featured throughout the year.

A small ship with intimate spaces and an informal air of sociability is a desirable aspect of your cruise experience.

Don't Choose If ...

You simply must bring the kids. While they aren't banned, Orient Lines' cruises are not designed for young children, and there are no facilities or programs for them.

You insist upon having accommodations with a balcony. You won't find any on Marco Polo.

You have severe mobility issues. As is true of older vessels, Marco Polo has numerous raised thresholds.
