Thank you to everyone who submitted photos to our recent "Show Us Your Turkey" photo contest, and congratulations to the winners whose photos appear in the slideshow below. Our grand prize winner, Fodor's member DoreenD, wins a full suite of Fodor's newest full-color guides. Runners up will receive a complimentary title of their choice. Several winners' photos, along with other contest submissions, will be featured in Fodor's Turkey, 7th edition, in stores August 2009.

"Wish trees are important figures in Turkish folklore and can be found throughout the Turkish countryside at vantage points along the road. The predominant practice with wish trees, as can be seen here is to tie small pieces of fabric or plastic to the branches of the tree, and then to make a wish. It is believed by doing so your wish will be granted. We found this hopeful tree along our approach to the Göreme Valley. So we stopped to add a prayer. You can see clay pots hanging on another tree behind this one—another Turkish tradition, and a second example of the many wonders of Turkish culture."
