Show Us Your Florida Side Photo Contest

Show Us Your Palm Beach Recent Entries

From Jupiter to Boca Raton, Palm Beach County boasts several noteworthy Florida beaches making it a top winter retreat for travelers. While its sandy shores are big draws, there is plenty else to be discovered like Delray Beach's lively downtown scene, Lake Okeechobee's rich fishing waters, and Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, a gateway site for the Great Florida Birding Trail.

Share the photos and experiences that made one of your trips to Palm Beach County special for a chance to win a suite of Fodor's new full color guides. Runner-up winners will have their photographs featured in a slideshow on Fodors.com and will win two (2) Fodor's guides of their choice (ARV = $45). In addition, if any photographs are selected to be included in a future Fodor's guide, those entrants will also receive a complimentary copy of the guide in which their photo appears.

Enter today and tell friends and family who have traveled to this corner of South Florida to enter as well. The "Show Us Your Palm Beach" contest closes December 31, 2009.

Florida bobcat at Green Cay Wetlands

Florida bobcat at Green Cay Wetlands

My teen-age son and I were leaving Green Cay near closing time. Near the exit, a rare Florida bobcat jumped onto the railing in front of us. We were scared to move since we didn't know if he would get angry, so we snapped away while he appeared to pose for us. Green Cay is one of our favorite places to take visitors and it's free and usually not crowded. It's a favorite walking place for seniors in western Boynton Beach.

A backyard friend

A backyard friend

Some of my favorite bird pictures come right from my backyard. We often joke that we travel thousands of miles to capture a good shot and then realize that the best ones come from just behind my house. These herons usually fly away when approached, but this one knew he was photogenic!

Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge

Being an enthusiast in photographing wild life, there a few places better than the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge. The miles of trails take you right into the very habitat of the many species of wildlife found nesting here. Arm yourself with a telephoto lens and have a ball.

Sunrise

Sunrise

Sat through 4 sunrises on Palm Beach. Watched the procession of total blackness with a small moon, to dark clouds, birds starting their hunt, subdued sun trying to rise over the horizon, to golden orb breaking through the clouds and scattering glowing light, to full sun shine and a clear sky. The beach was quiet and beautiful.

Blue Heron

My sister was showing me her new city and I remarked on the heavy traffic. She pulled off the road. There was shallow water, a walkway and birds everywhere. It was late in the day, the sun was dropping--and I found myself looking at a Japanese painting. I clicked the shutter.

This is our favorite restaurant on the inter coastal in West Palm Beach. On this vacation we were celebrating my Mom's 95th Birthday. You can tell she loves the food and the location. I wouldn't miss this one each time I visit West Palm Beach.

One of the "grand hotels"

We were fortunate to stay at The Breakers in Palm Beach for a conference. The interior of the hotel reminded us of a Venetian palace. This was the view of the entry drive from our room.

Zen

I love going to the Morikami Gardens. For some reason, people go by this little stone lantern without noticing it because it's hidden away in the shade by a big boulder. I thought it was so pretty, like a little guy in the corner. There was zen in finding this.
