Red-tiled Rooftops, Florence
"A view of the rooftops in Florence, Italy from atop the highest point of the Duomo after climbing 400+ narrow stairs. I was breathless, and not only from the climbing."

Luminosità in Val D'Orcia
"Pre-dawn light illuminates the misty landscape on the Val D'Orcia between Pienze and San Quirico in Southern Tuscany. The luminosity of the scene was magical."

San Calogero, Agrigento, Sicily
"The festival of San Calogero celebrates Agrigento's patron saint. To me, this photo captures the passion of Italy — proud men & sophisticated women driven by cell phones & Catholicism, collapsing under twin burdens of beauty & bureaucracy."

Storm Clouds Over the Giudecca Canal
"At first disappointed that inclement weather had greeted me on my recent arrival in Venice, I cheered up when I saw this vista before me. For certainly a sunny sky would not have framed the Church of Il Redentore on Giudecca Island with such dramatic beauty."

The Coliseum, Rome
"After visiting the Coliseum during the day, I was compelled to come back in the evening to photograph this magnificent structure. I was not disappointed; it is as splendid in the evening as it is during the day."

Santa Veronica in Saint Peter's Basilica
"It's challenging to get photos at the Vatican without a tourist in them, but when I saw how this one turned out with the blurred people walking by, I liked how it mirrored the motion of the statue itself."

Antiques Dealer, Tuscany
"This was taken on a Sunday afternoon during the monthly weekend antiques market in Arezzo (the Tuscan town made famous by the Academy Award-winning film 'Life is Beautiful'. The market was crowded with thousands of people visiting hundreds of stores and vendors. This shopkeeper apparently had enough for the day!"
