Sunset Watchers
During a beautiful sunset, I turned back toward the cliffs of Oia to see the other sunset watchers perched on the tops of buildings, on balconies and among the distant ruins. The light, the moon, and the flag made this scene more interesting than the sunset.

Donkeys
After getting off a boat below Oia, we decided to walk to the top. Halfway up the path, the donkeys wanted 'down', the trail boys proding them to go faster, with whips. With a high wall on one side and down on the other side, it was a very 'interesting situation'. With donkeys coming right at us, they did move off at the last moment.

I remember standing in front of this ruin trying to envision close to one hundred more columns and thinking what great engineers these people were. I love the shadows of the columns on the ground because it gives me a sense of the grandeur this temple and the ancient people must have been.

After a hectic journey from Athens and having been cheated countless times by what seemed like everyone we came into contact with (but was really only cab drivers and restaurant staff) we were all beginning to regret choosing Greece over Italy for our vacation. Sunset at the Temple of Poseidon
Everywhere we went on the Greek Islands the sunsets were spectacular. Each day I’d try to decide which was more incredible, the brilliant midday sunshine or the beautiful sunsets. My favorite was our last night in Greece, at the Temple of Poseidon. The Greek flag flutters in an ocean breeze that once powered the windmills of Santorini. Does any other flag so perfectly catch the essence of it's country?
I'd seen hundreds of photos of Santorini before I visited, but none truly conveyed the beauty of this island. The only other time I ever felt like this was stepping out of the Venice train station the first time and seeing the Grand Canal. Some places just have to be seen in person.

The Peloponnese is rich in history...and not just the ancient Greek civilization.
