A guard stands watch at Tiananmen Square
"On my first day in China, a tour including Tiananmen Square was a bit intimidating with all the guards posted. This one was quite serious, but in his youthfulness, he almost cracked a smile."Photo by Greg Knudsen

Gone Fishing
"This was taken in a small fishing village a short bus ride from the city. As was often the case in China, the magic came when we were invited into one of the villages houses to admire their garden. The friendliness of the people was the real magic of China, and it never seemed to be constrained by the language barrier."Photo by Pete Foley

Mineral Pools – Huanglong National Park, Sichuan province
"High in the mountains north of Chengdu, the mineral pools of the Huanglong National Park are strung like aquamarines through the deep green of the pine forest. The park was a literal breath of fresh air and a much-needed respite after long hours in the back of a dusty car, snaking up switchbacks along with every tour bus and produce truck plying the busy route. The topmost pools overlook the Tibetan temple incorporated into the park."Photo by ggreen

Teracotta Warriors
"Hints of color still show on the individual clay soldiers found buried outside Xian that formed an army of eternal protectors at the tomb of China's first emperor."Photo by Greg Knudsen

Daybreak over the Li River
"We stayed at the Li River Retreat and were thrilled with the view from our balcony. The karst peaks were amazing in this area."Photo by Gretchen Winters

Kazak musican
"A Kazak musician, dressed in ceremonial clothes, giving a public performance on the banks of Mirror Lake, a couple of hours drive from Urumqi. This was our first taste of China off the beaten track. It was cold, windy, snowing, and totally worth it. The kebabs and horse milk yoghurt were superb."Photo by Pete Foley

The Great Wall
"I took this photo to show others just how steep parts of the Great Wall can be. In the background the slogan for the 2008 Beijing Olympics is visible, as this was taken in March of 2008."Photo by Jennifer Nisevich

May I help you with your chopsticks???
"At one of our stops along the Yangtze River this child thrilled me with her beautiful face as she enjoyed breakfast. The people of China are friendly, outgoing, engaging, and curious about us. Picking just one picture of an inquiring face was difficult, but this one stole my heart!"Photo by bbobo

Lantern Festival
"This was taken 10PM at night on the last night of the lantern festival amongst thousands of Chinese. The colors to me were just right to take this."Photo by tab hauser

Dinner Anyone?!?!?
"A walk through the Donghuamen night market, also called snack street, captures both beautiful and indescribable food options that local residents enjoy. Many apartments don't have kitchens, so this dining option happens nightly in Beijing, where you pick from insects, sea horses, reptiles, dumplings, fruit, and another hundred or so foods to complete your dinner!"Photo by bbobo
