The Man is the Boss
The Princess (Donna) and I had been sitting on the beach watching our first "honeymoon" sunset. Our wedding photographer was packing her gear. We were chatting and I playfully said, "Just remember, the man is the boss!". Donna popped up, grabbed my shirt, and began to drag me in the sand. Our photographer snapped the pic. Every time I see this photo, I am instantly transported, in my mind, back to that beautiful beach and to the beginning of a beautiful marriage.

Secluded beache
You do not have to go out of the Unites States to find beautiful beaches. There are no private ocean beaches in PR - all are public- and you can find miles of beaches with few users. Some are good for swimming, others for surf boarding and others for snorkeling. This beach was within a wildlife refuge near Humacao (East shore). Include the islands of Culebra and Vieques, and you find even more pristine areas.

The Caribbean calls
The job of choosing which typical tropical pictures to submit was the hard part - I have many pictures like this. Panama has many rather secluded beaches, islands and places to snorkel. We snorkeled on this island in some of the most beautiful coral imaginable. Just behind me was a gorgeous white sand beach kept clean by the Kuna. If you want to relax, snorkel and be bedazzled by the beauty of a place, go to the San Blas area off the north east coast of Panama.

The Pool at "La Casa Grande" Mountain Retreat
In January, I rarely, actually, I never get to swim outside whether it is in a pool or natural body of water, so being able to swim in cool water on a very warm day in January was a real treat. We drove through the Cordillera Central of Puerto Rico to get to Utuado rather than taking a much quicker and less scenic route by way of a four lane interstate like route. Puerto Rico's Ruta Panoramica is beautiful, but not an express highway. It is a mountain road through the jungle. It is amazing! Palm Trees are reflected in the pool in this photo. It is calm here. The coqui's make their sound at night, but it is quiet until the rooster sings out in the morning. The hotel owner gave us directions for a quicker way back to San Juan. This gave us extra time to stop at a nice restaurant in Dorado for a leisurely lunch. Casa Grande is a mountain retreat; it is very beautiful and comfortable here. This is a part of Puerto Rico that I suspect many people do not get to see, but it is well worth the effort to get here. I can't wait to go back. Next time I will plan to stay longer.

Large Ferns reflected in a pool of water
It was January, 2010 at the Museum of Art in San Juan. Inside the art was wonderful, but no photos are allowed. The San Juan Philharmonic just happened to be rehearsing on the day we chose to visit, and they are so talented. Outside there is a sculpture garden. Tropical plants are placed very carefully so that the art and the plants can be enjoyed together. It was a gift for the eyes at every turn. I especially enjoyed the whimsical aspects that the gardener/artists had taken here. We practically had the garden to ourselves that afternoon; this is practically an undiscovered bit of paradise. The flowers and plants were beautiful by themselves, but they had all been carefully placed and that added to the calmness and tranquility of the garden.
