Zika Virus Concerns
Hi, as much as I know it's a bit irrational, I'm wondering if locals in S. Florida are just putting on bug spray and calling it good? We plan to go in August and can't decide now between Naples area or Key West and now I'm wondering if one location has more wind (to keep mosquitoes at bay)?
Does anyone know? I mean, we have mosquitoes here too...

To date, there have been zero cases of locally acquired Zika in the US.

I don't blame you for being concerned, but as a Florida resident, what choice do I have but to use DEET, avoid mosquitos when I can, and call it good?
I hope others can advise you on the relative windiness of Naples vs Key West.

Are you pregnant or trying to get pregnant? If not, I really wouldn't worry about it. I'd worry more about the heat and humidity in August! I would want to know your ages and interests before recommending either place. For me, it would be the Keys, hands down.

Hi guys, thank you for your responses and the cdc link. It's what I have followed but I just wondered how you locals felt. I have all kinds of bug spray to bring. I have two teens and I'm mid 40's so no pregnancy! The only real thing that concerns me is Gullain Barre associated with Zika--but I see of the 900 plus cases, only 4 have it. Getting the flu symptoms doesn't bother me. The only reason I tossed Naples into the mix is because it seems to have big swimming pools where the Keys have small ones. And this would only matter if we got torrential rain in August. And yes, the heat and humidity will be hard core, lol! But nothing is worse than Siem Reap, Cambodia near the temples. We dripped last year. I think Florida will be nice Thanks again!
