Your Jekyll Island/St. Simons favorites?

Lodging is booked but we are open to all suggestions on restaurants and special shops. We will be riding bikes during the day (with luck we will be riding bikes in sunny, warm weather) so prefer fairly casual restaurants for lunch.
Thank you.

Have you been over to Cumberland Island via the ferry from St Mary's for a day trip? If not, you really should squeeze that in. There's nothing like Cumberland. Well...not much, anymore.

I highly recommend the kayak tour in the marshes on Jekyll.

I suppose you plan to stop in the historic district and look around the "cottages".

The restaurants are nicer on SS. Which island are you staying on? Do you need lunch ideas on Jekyll and dinner ideas on SS or vice versa?

No matter the answer, I love this place -

A friend moved back "home" and we met there. It's great for cocktails, dinner, just sitting back and relaxing, etc. Great service and great food.

We've been going to JI for over 20 years and have seen lots of restuarants come and go. Unfortunately, one of our favorites, Zachry's Restauant had to close because of renovations to the shopping strip and they are now near the intersection of I-95 and Hwy 17. You wouldn't want to ride your bikes there, but it might be a good place to go for dinner. They have a big menu and we always found their staff to be friendly.

Here's a list of restaurants in JI with menus. http://www.jekyllisland.com/WheretoEat.aspx

Since we stay in condos, we generally don't eat out for lunch, but from this list you should be able to tell which place would work well for a casual lunch. Here's how I find the following places for dinner (we've never done any of the Jekyll Island Club restaurants):

1. Blackbeard's--Overpriced fried food with fair-to-poor service.
2. Driftwood Bistro--We've stayed at Villas by the Sea for ages and their restaurant has changed hands several times. It is currently the Driftwood Bistro and we were pleased with the results on our last visit. We found a good choice of food and good service.
3. Latitude 31--Often crowded and service can be poorer when it's crowded. Not a huge menu, but the food is good. Has a great location.
4. Red Bug Motors Pizza and Pub--We tried this for the first time last summer for a pizza dinner. Friendly service and good pizza. (We ate outside on the patio.)
5. SeaJay's--The "Low Country Boil" buffet is a good deal if you like that kind of food. Good location, but if a band is playing, it's incredibly LOUD!

Thank you for the helpful responses. I appreciate them.

We won't do Cumberland this trip. We have previously stayed there for a few days; but, this time we'll be staying at the Jekyll Island Club. We will go to St. Simon's, too.

If you prefer driving to St. Simons Island go to Crabdaddy's or Crab Trap for fresh seafood. Head over the causeway and continue on King's Way to Ocean Boulevard. After about one mile CD's and CT will be on the left. They are right next to each other and both have the best fresh seafood. Crab Trap is fried with hush puppies and large platters. Crabdaddy's has grilled and blackened plates and the best fish. It's also that less casual. They are both great seafood places with different personalities.

Crabdaddy's @ 1217 Ocean Blvd., Saint Simons Island, GA 912 - 634 - 1120.

I like Barbara Jean's. If you want fine dining for lunch go to Delaney's.

Delaney's Bistro @ 3415 Frederica Square, Saint Simons Island, GA 912 - 638 -1330. FD/LD.

Driftwood Bistro @ 1175 N. Beachview Dr., Jekyll Island, GA 912 - 635 - 3588.
