Yountville Honeymoon.... questions...
..Will be staying at the Villagio Inn for our Honeymoon during the 1st of the year.
1. I read that French Laundry is closed at this time. Is that true? If so my fiance' will be very dissapointed. What other fine dining rec's. can you give me?
2. I know this is wine country, but are there any bars/pub/micro-brewery type places that server beer as well? My fiance' is a wine lover, I am not, it really aggrivates my allergies.
3. Is the wine train really very touristy as it sounds or is it a good experience.
4. Anything going on for NEw Years Eve?
5. Anything else to do besides touring wineries? Any hardcore cyclists out there who know where I can rent a good top level bike?
Thanks

Ok,
You must contact TFL directly for hours and more importantly to see IF you can get a mandatory reservation. I and others have waited HOURS for a cancellation and it just did not happen.
Folks book months in advance. I thought it was hype...it is not. For a honeymoon you really want to do this if your wedding leaves you with a few hundred dollars to splurge. Nwext go to the Napa Valley website or Rants & Raves for other information.
2)Beer is served everywhere. Tasting it is not going to happen in Napa. The Bay Area has many places to do some major tasting. Go to your search engine and type in microbrews, CA. You will have fun doing this if time permits.
3) The wine train for honeymooners is fine. You will be with each other so forget the rest. The food and scenery are both good to excellent.
4) New Years Eve...buy a SF Chronicle. We hav a zillion things going on. You will have many choices if you have lots of money to spend in Northern California. You could go cheap, do an urban picnic in a "safe" place, bring your wine, cheese etc.
5) Again, a million things to do beside tour wineries. I suggest you get a guide book AND do a serch on this Fodors site for the hundreads of threads that contain valuable and useful information for your journey.
Happy marriage and honeymoon.

TiGuy, Congrats!
We'll be spending T'giving weekend in Yountville as it's our 22nd wedding anniv.
Here are some of the webs I use for the Napa Area that can help you out:
http://www.yountville.com/
http://www.napalinks.com/
http://www.napavalleyonline.com/
We ride bikes about 3-4x a year down there and here is a good link on our fave bike club/tour that should get you started:
http://www.napanet.net/~eccweb/index.shtml
The Villagio is a very nice place and is in walking distance to some very good places to eat if you can't get TFL.
Piattis, The Diner, Livefire, Bouchon, Bisto Jeanty, Pacific Blues, Compadres and Napa Grille all nearby.
As for the Wine train, you'll read diff. posts but most of the people we know who did it liked the whole experience.
Congrats again.

Great choice of lodging. Be sure and pay a visit to the spa at Villagio--it's wonderful.
I understand that the owner of French Laundry has opened another restaurant. If TFL is closed or has no reservations, you might give that a try. I'd also recommend Tra Vigne in St. Helena. There is also an excellent gourmet deli at V. Sattui.
You only need to do a couple of winery tours. I think St. Supery and Schramsberg have the best.
Congratulations--have a great time.
