Yosemite Tuolumne Meadows in October

I would like to camp in the Tuolumne Meadows area in late October. Are there any campsites open this late in the year or is backcountry camping allowed. Thanks for any help.

The fodors main page has a button for National Park info. If the info you need isn't there, a link to the official park site will be.

hi, we were just there last friday and all the "services" off of the northern Yosemite road that leads to the Tuolumne Meadows are closed (last gas if coming from the west side is crane flat). however, as long as the road is open you can get up there and we did see cars at one of the camp sites (i believe it was called porcupine creek). even if the campsites are closed, you can allways do the back coutry hiking/camping, you just need to get a free wilderness permit from the park office and as long as the road is open, which i believe it usually is til mid november, you can camp in the Tuolumne Meadows area. email me if you have other specific questions. we loved it, it wasbeautifu last week, sunny and 80's all day, got chilly at night though, we were glad we had wool blankets
