Yosemite help, please!

Has anyone ever stayed in a condominium inside Yosemite Park? I have found vacation rentals on the internet that look really nice. They are 15 miles south of the valley. Any comments will be helpful since this is our first time there.

If you do a search on Yosemite West, you will see that there are mixed reviews, probably because they are individually owned.

And remember - that 15 miles can take up to 45 minutes to drive - especially on weekends.

Is this your first time to Yosemite? If so, plase read past posts here and take the overwhelming advice to STAY IN THE PARK! Not 15 miles south of the valley. Stay in the park, no matter what! You will enjoy your time and be able to relax. Driving an hour each way for several days gets old fast and anything like an accident on the road or a fire in the area can ruin your trip because you'll be stuck!

Another vote for staying within the park if possible.

If the message isn't clear yet -- stay in the park. Also -- like the other good advice above --search other postings --lots of pointers on lodging. I have made several posts on Yosemite in the past month -- just click on ID and scroll down posts --several good tips on how to get accomadations. As far as the 15 miles -- don't believe it, and if it is its still 45 mins or more. Picture lots of huge mountains (theses are the Sierra Nevadas) with a glacier made valley at 4000 foot elevation that aint easy to get to --- meaning lots of winding 2 lane roads to get in and out, Once you get there you do NOT want to leave. The valley itself it dead flat with 2000+ foot granite walls. Go to Glacier Point too. Enjoy the park all day and night, you will be glad you did.

I am thinking the 15 mile quote may be from the park boundary rather than from the valley.

Having visited Yosemite for the first time in late June, I strongly suggest staying in the valley to avoid the daily drive in and out. However, we had to make reservations almost a year in advance for both Yosemite Lodge and The Ahwahnee.

As Dean56 says, you need reservations WAY in advance to stay in the valley, especially in summer. I live about 3 hours from Yosemite and travel there 3-4 times a year. I have stayed in the valley and it is great if you can get it. As an alternative, I recommend Yosemite View Lodge at the west entrance to the park. It takes about 15 minutes to drive to the valley from there, but it is the closest you can be without staying in the park. Accommodations are nice and there is a restaurant and pizza parlor on site if you don't feel like trying to battle the masses and eat in the park. I still think staying in the park is the best, but this is a viable alternative. Enjoy, and please see more than just the valley. This is a huge park and offers so much variety, take advantage.
