Old Faithfull, geyser area eg paint pots, canyon area
Two tips:

1. Use the "search the forums" command above to search for "Yellowstone." You'll find hundreds of threads full of information.
2. Don't allocate too much of your vacation to the part of Yellowstone that's in Illinois. I think you'd be disappointed.
Check out these URLs:
www.nps.gov/yell

(if there's any topic about Yellowstone that's not covered in this URL, that topic doesn't matter)

One of my favorite areas is the Lamar Valley. Also Yellowstone Falls. Personally while Old Faithfull is pretty much a 1st timer must, I find the area way too crowded. There's a 4-lane highway with a cloverleaf there! Too many people.
Don't try to see it all in 2 days .. spend at least a week to 10 days
spend an entire day(at least) just watching the geysers. While Old Faithful is great(saw it 3 times), we liked Riverside and Castle Geyser best. Catch OF at 6:00am in the morning and you might have it all to yourself, or at least just a handful of people.
I would do one of the Yellow Bus Tours-we did the Lake Sunset Butte Tour.
Get up early and stay up late to catch wildlife.
