Yellowstone - On E in the Park. Best place to fill up the rental car?
Hi folks:
We are getting very excited about our ten day trip in June. We'll be picking up a rental car in Bozeman and doing a north/south one route throughout the various areas of the park and flying out of Jackson. We'll also have a detour to the Beartooth and overnight in Red Lodge. So - we are driving alot!
I am totally expecting ridiculous gas prices - however what is the situation at YNP? Are there places to fill up in the park and if so do you get gouged there? Do people fill up in Gardiner, Cody, etc., wherever they might be outside the park?
Just curious on what to expect and not wanting to pay any more than we have too.
Thanks!

We were there in Sept and found the gas prices to be only slightly higher (pennies) than our prices at home. There are websites where you can check gas prices around the country.
Gas stations in YNP are conveniently located at all the major hotels . . . Old Faithful, Canyon, and Yellowstone Lake. I can't remember if there was one at Mammoth, but Gardiner is very close and there's stations there. We filled up in Cody, at Canyon, and Jackson.

I googled and this is the first one I found:

There are probably many others.
You'll LOVE Yellowstone and the Tetons!

Thanks so much BayouGal. That's just what I needed to know. Glad to hear that the in park prices are not ridiculously higher than the already high prices!
I have everything pretty much set for the trip and then this question just popped into my mind - I hadn't read on any of the YNP threads if there were actual filling stations in the park or not.

When we were there last summer, I seem to remember the station at Canyon may have been a couple of cents cheaper than Old Faithful area.
On the whole, though, I was pleasantly surprised to find the prices only about 10 cents higher than outside the park.
Enjoy your vacation! We loved Yellowstone!

The further away from the park you get the least expensive you will find it. Last year the prices at the stations in the Park were a few ¢¢¢ lower than in West Yellowstone, Gardiner or Cooke City. Jackson and Red Lodge were a little lower but do not expect any great difference. In all reality no one can predict what the prices will be in June. Guess we will have to pay them if we expect to drive.

BayouGal,
Like last summer, prices in the park are cheaper than here in California! Like most people have mentioned, we found the prices in the park to be 10 cents higher in the park than outside. California, Utah and Nevada prices were higher (last summer)
