Yankee game--ticket, price, and seat questions!

My husband and I will be in NYC for a week. There are two nights we could go to a Yankee game (which going to a game in Yankee Stadium is at the TOP of my list of Must Do's, but unfortunately my husband isn't quite as thrilled as me).

Tickets for the first game against Boston are very expensive even for the nose-bleed sections. Tickets for the next game appear easier to come by and would be closer, but they are "just" playing Seattle.

My questions:
- Do you think it is worth buying the more expensive tickets for worse seats or would you put the money into better seats for a "worse" game?
- Also, has anyone used other sites for purchasing tickets (which appears to be the only way to get the Red Sox game tickets)? Such as stubhub, craig's list, ebay, ticketliquidator, ticketsnow, etc?

And, by the way, I have nothing against Seattle, it's just that seeing the Yankee's play the Red Sox in NY would be awesome, in my opinion.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I bought tickets for Yankee/Red Sox on Ebay a year ago and got a fairly decent price and good seats.
The main caveat with Ebay of course is to check feedback--make sure you're dealing with a reputable seller.
I gotta tell you, there are few experiences better than being at a Yankees vs. Red Sox game. It is one of the great rivalries in all sports, let alone baseball.
I have a friend who goes to several Yankee games each season and uses Stubhub and he's very happy with them.

We have bought Red Sox tickets from a reputable ticket broker in Boston (not on-line service - they have stores).

An issue with buying tickets from a place like ebay, Craig's list is that many tickets are now purchased and printed at home with print-at-home option. There is nothing to stop a person from printing multiple copies of the ticket - and the rule is the first one thru the turnstyle with that ticket/those seats is the owner.

I would only go to Red Sox-Yankees game if you promise to cheer for Red Sox, not Yankees.

Go for the Sox game. Yankees/Red Sox is one of the best rivalries in sports and is an experience all in itself, even if you're not a huge fan.

I'd go with the nosebleed seats if you don't want to spend a lot of cash, you're still at the game. Stubhub is reputable and there are also reputable sellers on eBay, I've used one called beantowntickets in the past. Just check the listing and feedback carefully.

Not sure when they are implementing it, but the Yankee's have or soon will start their own "ticket-broker" service. Last year they pulled the season tickets from several fans who resold them on stubhub, ebay, etc.

So, if it's in place for next season, you may have to go through the team for a ticket.

We always want good seats, but don;t get to go often - and in any case you can;t buy decent season tickets. So we alwys use a scalper (on-line broker). We have used stubhub several times and found them to be no more expensive - and sometimes a little less than some of the others.

Any ticket you get from them will be legitimate.

With ebay and Craigs list you're taking your chances. Many of the tickets listed there are also scalpers, but some are people just selling extra seats. No way to check this on Craigs list and there are some fake tickets out there. On ebay you need to check the seller's record carefully - but there is less chance for deception.

As for what tickets to get - Red Sox if you can afford anything close to the field. If you don;t want to pay that much go for the Seattle game (but the atmosphere will be completely different).

As for seats - we don;t take anything further back than the 8/9th row from the field and naturally prefer - but can;t always get - behind the Yankee dugout. (But these will cost a lot - esp for the Sox). Do not go for any of the Tier seats without binoculars and a sherpa guide.

Never been to a Red Sox-Yankees game at Yankee Stadium - but I would go for that game. The atmosphere when they play at Fenway is so electric, even the cheapest seats (a lot closer to field at Fenway, though) are worth the admission price.

And let's face it, the reason you go to a game is the atmosphere - with today's cameras and angles, you see so much more baseball at home.

Thanks everyone!

We ended up buying tickets through Stubhub for the Yankees / Red Sox game. I was able to talk my hubby into paying more than we originally planned, so I think we got great seats! I'm so excited.

Thanks again--I really appreciate all the advice.

The Yankees are coming to SF for the first time. We wanted tickets (it`s only for 3 games). Got up the morning tickets went on sale and you can`t even get them! Sales are frozen unless you want season tickets or you want to buy a bunch. Oh, well, will go see SF play against the Dodgers, the bitter enemy, but seeing the Yankees would have been nice, but bet expensive!
