Hi Fodorites!
I'm taking an impromptu trip to Oregon, flying in/out of Portland.
4 nts Manzanita
3 nts Yachats
2 nts Yamhill
Happily for me, the last nights coincide with Mem weekend, when the wineries are open! It looks like there are several outstanding wineries in the area and I'll be happy to make it to 3 of them.
Any favorites? I prefer big reds, but am interested to try more of the OR pinots. Also looking for a couple nice restaurants for dinner and lunch, as I'm staying in a B&B these 2 nights.
Grazie!

First-time to NYC Trip Report as promised!

That weekend is a lot of fun! We live right near many of the wineries.

Definitely visit the smaller places. My personal favorites include Brick House and Arbor Brook both in Newberg, Seufert in Dayton, and Seven of Hearts in Carlton. Carlton is great in that there are quite a few tasting rooms in the 2 block downtown area. BTW, the winemaker at Seven of Hearts, his wife owns Honest Chocolates and so they pair their wines with the chocolates.
Brick House and Arbor Brook are less than 5 minutes apart, so those would be musts on my list and that would allow time for a 4th winery if you choose.
As for restaurants, there are many good places. Farm to Fork, Tina's, Red Hills Provincial Dining and Dundee Bistro are all in Dundee and are all very good. Jory in Newberg is good too, and lots of places in McMinnville. If you like mushrooms,
Dayton has the Joel Palmer House. There are so many good places around here, it is hard to list them all.
Are you driving yourself to the wineries? I ask because the police have a very heavy presence around here and so you need to be very careful. Both with driving under the influence as well as speeding. On HWY99W the speed limit goes back and forth between 25 and 55, so you need to watch it.
If you have any other questions just ask
mms,
Yes, I'm driving myself which is why I really just taste, not drink! Thanks for the tips and the heads up on the speed limits too.
I'll print this out to take along.
Anyone else?
Dayle--Good to hear
We will be helping a friend at his winery that weekend, but will probably hit a few others as well. Will you be in Portland at all? If so, there is a really good urban winery in the NW industrial part of town, Grochau Cellars. John's wines are very good, and very reasonably priced.
