XXX Rating on Dallas Museum of Art
Can you believe this bunch of bs? A teacher was fired for taking a school field trip to the Dallas Art Museum. Gasp - one of the children complained that he/she saw a nude sculpture. Give me a break.

Wouldn't there have been some type of permission slip or something? Not specifically because of the nude sculptures, but because I can't imagine a teacher could take students anywhere off school premises without permission. At that point, if parents were all OK with kids going, isn't it their problem for not having done their homework to understand what their kids might see?

Precisely - all school field trips require parents' written permission. If the parents were so ill-educated they didn;t realize that any art museum is likely to contain nudes - well now they know at least one fact about art.
As for the teacher being fired - I would think she has a very nice suit for improper dismissal in the works. With added compensation for damage to her professional reputation.

Is there an article on this matter, and can somebody paste a link, please? I couldn't find anything.
I imagine, it was not about a nude sculpture, but about taking a child on a field trip without parents' written concent. Or maybe not approved extra-cirricular activity?
I am curious to read about it!

One parent complained, and she got fired? No way! This could've been worked out.
"Board members said there were other performance issues in question beyond the trip complaint." - there were other issues, and the field trip was the last drop, it seems.
Or maybe in Texas everything's different

Well a niece of mine attended a university in Texas (I don't remember which one). On the bookshelf in her dorm room was a small statue of David which her grandmother had brought back to her after her trip to Florence.
Someone evidently complained about the "porno" statue to the universitiy authorities. My niece was told to remove the statue. She refused and went into great detail about the statue David in Florence. She was told to remove the statue or she would have to vacate her dorm room. Her parents removed her from the university and the next year she enrolled elsewhere, right along with "David".
This incident certainly left all of us shaking our heads!

An intersting side note - this morning the Dallas ABC-TV affiliate reported the results of a survey of parents with school age children that had about 70% (sorry don't rember exact number) agreeing the children shouldn't be exposed to artwork showing nudity when visiting museums. Now that's pretty scary!!!
