Xmas in Miami
We are travelling from Ireland to spend Xmas in Miami and I'm wondering what clothes to bring. Will summer clothes be ok? Also, is Miami as casual as the rest of Florida and would this apply to Xmas Day in the hotel as well?
Thanks for any advice.

Hello Olivera -
I just asked the same question yesterday, but mine was about velvet. If you should happen to get some rude answers, please ignore them. This is a legitimate question especially coming from a cold damp place.
I just phoned my sister in law who lives there and she said that a cold front has moved in and by Christms the temp. should be in the 70's. The evenings do get chilly in December, so I would suggest light weight pants, short sleeve tops and a cardiagan sweater to put over the tops just in
case it gets cold.
I am forgetting the shorts and tank tops. Capri pants, yes, one pair. Strappy sandles yes, light weight sweater yes. One short skirt and one long skirt in that silky, non wrinkle material. Very transitional.
On Christmas day I decided to wear black velvet pants, velvet top with a shear blouse over it.
Hubby - he is bringing light weight pants, no shorts, polo tee's-Christmas Khacki pants shirt and Blazer. The same thing he will be wearing on the plane. Hope this will help.
Where I live, it just started to get down to the 40's before that we were in the 60's. Warm for us. Have a wonderful trip.

I would pack some shorts and summer wear. Daytime highs might very well reach into the 80's (F) and unless a cold front comes through, it should not get colder than 60 (F).
Now the locals there will be putting on jackets if it gets down to 65, but for anyone from a more temperate climate, shorts may be entirely appropriate and comfortable. The water temperature may even be to your liking as well, though few locals would even swim in December! Plenty of tourists will!
Miami is a very casual town with a huge variety of dress and most of the best restaurants will not have a problem with shorts. The only real time to dress up is if you're going to some of the nightclubs and even then there will be a variety of dress.
Of course, most Miami residents can spot European tourists from three miles away (usually overly colorful dress, lots of soccer (football) logos, and pale skin). So, if you want to blend in (which is a safe idea in Miami too) you can never go wrong with jeans, khacki shorts or pants, and socks that do not go up to you knees)

Olivera - I just finished laying out my clothes that I am going to be packing for our trip to Florida on Saturday. I admit - I packed two pairs of shorts. I checked the weather channel and it said it is going to be in the mid to high 70's. So for just a casual day walking around and visiting Shooters, I will wear shorts. As the previous poster said, you don't want to look like a tourist. I was told the same thing when we went to Europe. "Just blend in with the crowd" My in-laws will say that I am weird if I wear the shorts, but guess what- I will be comfortable and I've cheated and went to a tanning booth. You will look great no matter what you wear. Remember your baggies and to fold everything. Have a great time in the States. I'll be going to Ireland in April, so watch for my questions OK?
