WE ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO MONTEREY DEC 23-28TH AND ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO ON CHRISTMAS DAY. WE DON'T MIND DRIVING TO ANOTHER AREA. WHAT IS OPEN? ANY GREAT LOCAL EVENTS OR RESTAURANTS? ANYTHING IN SAN FRANCISCO?

We are going to be in San Fran over Christmas as well. I have found a few things to do that are avaliable that day. We will do lumbard street and the trolly cars and we will head out to Mur Woods ( I have checked they are open they just have no tours) WE will probably have dinner in Japantown or Chinatown. Hope this helps. If you come up with any idea please let me know.

Althought there isn't much "open" if you want a real Christmas experience Grace Catherdral at the top of Nob Hill is lovely and the Men and Boys Choir exquisite (get there early). All the larger hotels in town are beautifully decorated and can be enjoyed. One of the things I love to do on New Years- which could be easily moved to Christmas, to is drive out to the beach- I prefer Stinson. If you're staying in Monterey you're looking at a 3 hour or so drive up to San Francisco. I'm not clear on what you hope to find by doing that. Can you clarify it? And, by the way, capital letters are considered shouting.

Hi ellis,

I auapect that there will not be too mnay places open on Christmas day in the Monterey Bay Area. In San Jose there's Christmas in the Park and well as the Downtown Ice Skating rink. I don't know if you have kids with you, but the Winter Wonderland near the Fairmont across from Christmas in the Park has fun rides for the kids. Many of the hotels, especially the Fairmont, will be nicely decorated for Christmas. Many, if not all of the hotel restaurants in the area will open (Fairmont, Hotel DeAnza, Hyatt Sainte Claire, San Jose Marriott City Center, etc). I would check with other restaurants individually to see what their Christmas Day hours will be.
