Wyoming trip - Best route from Kansas City to Yellowstone Lake area lodging
We are taking the grand kids and only going to be in Yellowstone for 4 nights so I really can't come up thru the Teton area because it will take too much time. We are leaving our farm and all our animals so we don't have as much time as we would like. We are thinking that we would like to make it with just one stop over. I have made a few trips to the Black Hills from central Missouri hauling horses and motorcycles and was able to make it with just one stop over. Is it possible? Would the best entrance be the East one via Cody to get to our lodging at the Lake?

Looks like 635 miles to Cheyenne WY via I-80 in a bit over 9 hours. 470 miles from Cheyenne to Yellowstone Lake via I-25 to Casper and then through Thermopolis and Cody. Should take about 8 hours. Total 1105 miles+/- in 17.3 hours.

We drove it from kansas city.....East entrance is prob the best. We stayed in Jackson 2 nights so we came in the south entrance. Lot's of road construction on the South entrance. BTW wyoming has highway patrolmen! Got nailed for doing 82 on a 65 in the middle of nowhere. Driving across Neraska seemed like the longest part of the trip....I'm wondering if taking I-70 across kansas then cutting up is better?

www.mapsonus.com puts it at 1048 miles and 15.9 hours. I usually follow that websites suggested route.
