Wyndham in St. louis, MO

How does the Mayfair Wyndham Grand Heritage Hotel in St. Louis rate? We love historic buildings so naturally it caught our eye.
We're trying to decide between the Wyndham and the Drury Union Station. Wyndham is less expensive.
Am I right by looking at a map and thinking Wyndham is downtown? Is it safe to walk to restaurants, ect. downtown in the evening?
