Wyndham in Philly

Got a great rate for the four of us. Two adults, two kids. How is the Wyndham in Philly? The Westin was much more expensive. Also the Ritz and Four Seasons. We will be going to the Franklin Institute, Independence Mall, etc. Was a little worried about the convention hall area. What do you think?

When are you going? I found a great rate
for the Westin (and many others) at the Philadelphia tourism website--gophila.com.
There are several promos going on, one of which has two weekend nights for the regular (well discounted) one night rate.
For example., the Westin was $119 for 2 nights (some others were as low as $79 for 2 nights, The Latham, I think), the Ritz and Four Seasons were $350. The catch is that it's only for Friday and Saturday (maybe Sat/Sun combo too)--no discount if you only stay one night.
Hope this helps!

The Westin quoted me $269 for 2 nights under that promo. It was for the Fri and Sat night after Christmas. Plus they only had rooms with 1 king or 2 twins available so we would have to get two rooms. The Wyndham is $119 for two nights. Cheap enough to get two rooms. The Four Seasons was $360 for two nights also only having 1 king or 2 twins. We once stayed in a Wyndham in DC with 2 kings in the room. That was a great room.

Thanks for the heads up, Susan--that must have been some typo originally (I printed it off, and now looking at the same promo site, several of the hotels rates are changed!!)

Susan,

The Wyndham is also known as the Wyndham Franklin Plaza. You are in a good area right next to Glaxo Smithkline Corp HQ. That is where all of their execs stay and is very nice, esp for the price. If your kids are younger, go to the Academy of Natural Sciences. Have a fun and safe trip.

Thanks for the input everyone. My kids are 10 and 12. We will probably skip the Academy of Nat. Sciences this trip only because we did the NY Nat. History Museum earlier this year. I always loved the Academy though so I'm sure we'll do it some other time. Does anyone know if you can still go through the Mint? That was always fun. Thanks again. This Virginia family is hoping to see some snow up North that week.

Susan,

I am 90% sure that they still have the tours of the mint, although it is probably somewhat different than what you might remember (depending how long ago it was that you were there). Independance Hall is blocked off, has been since 9/11 no tours that I am aware of. They did open up the new pavillion and welcome center there on Independance mall. There is also the NEW (Opened last sat. night) Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. They will be hosting free events till 12/31 in honor of the opening. It should also be pretty nice out, yoou might want to think about a trip out to Valley Forge (only about 45 min drive from Center City), can be pretty this time of year, just need a sunny day and little wind. Hope that this helps. Best wishes for a safe holiday and trip!
