WV White Water Rafting...help this first-timer

Hi, I'm considering a white-water rafting trip for the first time. I've heard ACE Outfitters are good. This would be a September or October trip, I'm a little scared to try the Gauley River but I'd be going with a daredevil...any middle ground there? I'd like some thrills but not potential for death ;) Please share your experiences with me. Thanks.
