Woodstock, NY: need adive a.s.a.p

I'm wondering if Woodstock is an appealing place to spend a day. I mean other than the historic significance of the concert. Are there places to hike in the area? Are there places in the Catskills nearby where we'd feel sort of like we were in the mountains?
We'll be in Rhinebeck on Monday and just wondering abt places to explore. Thanks!

Personally, I would stay around Rhinebeck. There is enough in that area to keep you busy all day. Woodstock the town is not a favorite of mine, so I will avoid criticism, but it is also a bit of a drive from Rhinebeck.
From Olana go north on Rt 9 and on to the village of Hudson..and old port town that is now an antiques village. All up and down the main street are antique stores. There are a couple of good restaurants too.
Go to the Rhinebeck Aerodrome and see the crazy young men in their flying machines..quite fun.
Along Rt 9 is Red Hook where you can browse some small shops, there is a great orchard that has a farm store, we always bought apples and apple cider donuts there..Once you are actually there, you will see that just driving north on 9 will allow you to explore and you will wish you had more than a day.
Have a great time~

Thanks for the repy, Scarlett. In fact, though, we're not at all interested in shops, antique or otherwise. What we most enjoy is walking/hiking/visiting gardens. I'm sorry that Montgomery Place is open only during the weekend; also the Aerodome. We'd've enjoyed those places.

For just hiking:

Clermont in Red Hook
Ferncliff in Rhinebeck
Fishill Ridge / Mt Beacon

I got the idea you mean wandering from Woodstock, since that is just fields, woods and the main street downtown..no real hiking places that I know of..although locals might know much more..they DO know much more
Hope this helps.

There is a lot ofhiking in the Woodstock Area. You are in the Northern Catskills.

Here is a website that shows you some hiking trails:
http://www.catskillguide.com/hiking.htm

You may want to consider Kaaterskill Falls.
