I just booked 5 nights at the Woodstock Inn in Woodstock, Vermont for March. They have a good deal where you can ski free at their mountain, Suicide Six, during the week if you stay at the Inn. I don't think the mountain is very large, but my kids are beginners and figured it would be a great, and cost conscious way for them to ski. Anyway, I was looking for feedback on the Inn, other things to do in the area, restaurants and Suicide Six (The ski resort owned by The Woodstock Inn). Thank you!

Stayed there in the summer with my family when they were young. It was excellent!!!!

The Inn's pretty nice. The rooms aren't especially large, I'd guess maybe 275 sq ft. Decor is kind of country-ish, with plaid blankets on the bed, colors of hunter green/burgundy, that kind of thing (a couple years ago). Public areas are nice. It's expensive for what you get, but it's the best game in town, and they know it. The restuarant's pretty good, not special, but certainly good enough.
If you find an extra $4000-5000 in your piggy bank that you didn't know was there, hike on up the road to Twin Farms, "curious". I haven't stayed there but am, myself, curious, having read many good things about it.

Thanks to both of you. I actually think it's a good deal - $ 185 for a deluxe room for 4 of us, which includes lift tickets and rentals. We would pay more than that for the lift tickets alone! GGG, I have friends who stayed at Twin Farms and said it was very, very special. Even if I were willing to shell out those kind of bucks, (which I'm not), it isn't the kind of place you would take kids to. In fact, they aren't allowed and rightfully so! Did you go in winter or summer? Other than skiing, what other activites did they have? Thanks!

My wife and I have been to Twin Farms twice--it is heaven on earth and worth every penny. However, if you are not a guest you will not be able to get into the gated property.
I have not skiied Suicide Six, but it is supposed to be a small mountain. From Woodstock, you are within an hour of Killington and Okemo if you want to try larger ski areas.
From Woodstock, its worth taking the short drive to Quechee. Its a lovely small town with a covered bridge. While there, you can visit the Simon Pearce glass outlet; they have glassblowers working on site which your kids might enjoy. Quechee Gorge is also worth seeing.

I have skiied at Suicide many times. It's a smallish mountain by Killington standards, but still big enough to be a challenge. It is a very well groomed, uncrowded area with a beautiful base lodge and lots of local families. You won't be dissapointed. If you must go to Killington, the eastern most entrance is about 20-30 minutes from Woodstock. Although Woodstock is quite touristy, it is still a nice place to be, and the surrounding countryside is very beautiful, especially driving up to Suicide!

Thanks Doug and Neil. I've skied Woodstock lots in my younger days, and have no real desire to take the kids there yet. Sounds like Suicide Six will be fine and you can't beat the price!
